MoHRE: Occupational Heat Stress Prevention Policy for 2025 concludes today with 99% compliance rate among companies

Today, Monday, 15 September 2025, is the last day for this year’s run of the Occupational Heat Stress Prevention Policy. This was announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE). The policy commenced on 15 June in cooperation with the government and private sectors.

The campaign recorded a 99% compliance rate. This was among companies that adhered to the daily ban. They avoided working under direct sunlight and in open spaces from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. throughout the campaign’s duration.

His Excellency Mohsin Ali Al Nazi, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection & Compliance at MoHRE, said: “The Occupational Heat Stress Prevention Policy is now active.” The policy has started. This marks the 21st consecutive year. This affirms the dedication. It is proof of the UAE’s well-established humanitarian commitment in the labor market. The commitment includes a range of labor protection policies. These are part of an integrated ecosystem designed to give a safe work environment. This approach aligns with best practices. It meets occupational health and safety requirements. It enables protection for workers from injuries and hazards. These result from working in high temperatures during the summer months.”

Al Nassi noted that the private sector’s commitment to the policy shows its awareness of the campaign’s benefits. These benefits are for workers’ health. It also demonstrates concern for safety, especially during the summer months. “This has become an established practice and top priority among companies operating in the UAE. This is in line with their dedication to providing protections for workers. They adhere to the highest occupational health and safety standards and requirements,” he added.

Her Excellency Dalal Al Shehhi is the Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Labor Protection at MoHRE. She praised the Ministry’s partners from government sectors. She also acknowledged partners from private sectors. She also commended community members for their efforts in supporting the implementation of the Occupational Heat Stress Prevention Policy. During the campaign period, they rolled out an array of initiatives. “This confirms the significant regard given to workers in the UAE. They are considered key partners in driving sustainable development. They enhance the country’s leadership status. They guarantee the success of its ambitious economic strategies,” she explained.

“The UAE’s extensive commitment to social responsibility, noble ethical principles, and humanitarian values is significant. This commitment has established the protection and promotion of workers’ rights. These rights are now a deep-seated culture among various segments of society,” Al Shehhi continued. “Multiple initiatives have been launched to protect workers. They aim to develop the social security umbrella. Policies and legislation have been advanced to guarantee workers’ happiness. Additionally, these measures enhance their participation in events and holidays.”

As part of this year’s campaign, more than 10,000 air-conditioned rest stations were set up. These stations offer comfort for delivery service workers across all regions of the UAE. These stations are equipped with various amenities designed to guarantee their rest and comfort. In parallel, initiatives were launched to give refreshments and full meals for workers. Awareness campaigns were held to highlight the risks of heat exhaustion during the summer months. Medical examinations were provided for workers across the country.

The Occupational Heat Stress Prevention Policy imposes a set of obligations on companies and employers. One obligation is giving shaded areas for workers during the midday work break. Another obligation is offering shade while employees continue to work. This applies if they are employed in one of the sectors or roles authorized to do so. They must also supply appropriate cooling solutions and make certain enough drinking water. Employers must supply hydration supplements, like electrolytes or similar products approved for use by local authorities in the UAE. Furthermore, first aid equipment must be available at work sites.
